CLAREMONT, Calif. - CMS had the top four finishers in the 1650-yard freestyle, led by defending national champion
Lucas Lang in first, but Pomona-Pitzer was able to hold off the Stags for a 20-point win (186.5 to 166.5) over a two-day meet held at Haldeman Pool on Friday and Saturday.
Lang finished the 1650 in 16:04.14,
Adam VanLuvanee was second in 16:08.30, and
Cole Sumino third in 16:18.54, while
Henry Lyons, who was swimming an exhibition swim, came in fourth in 16:27.69. On Friday, VanLuvanee came in first in the 500, with Lang second and Sumino third, as the Stags dominated the distance events.
Jeremy Tan earned first place in the 100 back, breaking 50 seconds in 49.65, just .06 off his personal best, which ranks fifth all-time at CMS.
Dylan Krueger also tied for second with a 50.04, just .01 off his personal best which is seventh. Tan added a second-place finish in the 200 back in 1:49.68, setting a new top time (ranking eighth at CMS).
Kenny Eckel earned first place in the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.67, while taking second in the 100 breast in 56.88.
Tyler Headley was the runner-up in the 100 fly in 49.42, which moves him into ninth in CMS history,
Lucas Williams was second in the 400 IM in 4:03.79, with
Dean Ko earning third in 4:04.77.
Alex Davies was second in the 200 free in 1:41.17, with
Sean Su third in 1:42.26.
The Stags opened the day with a strong effort in the 200 medley relay, taking first in 1:29.97 as Tan,
Spencer Merodio,
Weston Crewe and
Dylan Krueger clocked a 1:29.97, moving into eighth in CMS history. The 400 free relay of Tan, Su,
Theo Johnson and Krueger also moved into the top 10 in 10th place with a 3:01.94
Jack Griffith was second in the one-meter dive, with a 309.95, with
Cyrus Gaylord third and
Ethan Sattley fourth.
CMS will return to action after the new year, when it hosts Occidental at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4.
