Adam Sage (14th),
Oliver Pick (16th) and
Hale Behan (20th) earned top-20 finishes as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team opened the 2024 season by coming in sixth at the Mark Covert Classic.
Division I teams California Baptist (33 points), Cal State Fullerton (74 points) and UC San Diego (90 points) finished 1-3, while Pomona-Pitzer (100 points), The Master's University (103 points) and CMS (108 points) were bunched together in a tight battle from fourth through sixth.
Sage ran a 24:37.8 over the 8K race to earn 14th place, with Pick less than a second behind in 24:38.7. Behan also came in under 25 minute mark at 24:56.4, with
Jerry Xu a half-second behind in 24:56.9 to come in 22nd.
Daniel Fajardo was the fifth scorer for CMS with a 25:28.2 to come in 40th, while
Pierce Clark was just outside the top 50 in 51st with a 25:39.3.
CMS will be back in action in three weeks when it competes at the UC Riverside Invitational.
