CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Annika Sharma earned the SCIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week and
Cyrus Gaylord captured the SCIAC Men's Diver of the Week for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving program, the conference office announced today.
Sharma was a part of four wins, two individual and two relay, as the Athenas defeated Occidental 239-53, while Gaylord came in first in the one-meter and second in the three-meter as the Stags won 224-72.
Sharma picked up her individual wins in the 50 free and the 200 back. She took the 50 free in 24.87, a margin of just over a half-second (.53), and then won the 200 back in 2:09.90, a margin of 3.47 seconds. She also opened the meet by contributing to a 200-yard medley relay win and then closed it out by swimming the second leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay.
Gaylord had a big score on the one-meter dive with a 352.70, exceeding his season-high by almost 50 points. He was also 34.45 points ahead of teammate
Jack Griffith, who came in second. Griffith earned the three-meter win over Gaylord in a closer battle, as Gaylord's 278.10 was just 8.2 points behind.
CMS will be back in action this week when the divers head to California Baptist to compete in the Lancer Diving Invitational on Thursday. The swimmers will battle California Baptist in a distance meet at home on Friday, before the Athenas and Stags return to Axelrood Pool on Saturday for a SCIAC double dual with Cal Lutheran and La Verne.
