CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior attacker
Nick Kennedy earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year Award in a vote of the league's coaches, and was joined on the All-SCIAC first team by seniors
Jake Taylor,
Thomas Walker and
Luke (Bear) Weigle, the league office announced today.
Walker was also the recipient of the SCIAC Character Award for the Stags, while Weigle earned All-SCIAC distinction for the fourth straight season.
Kennedy tallied 85 goals and 71 assists during the regular season to help the Stags to a 20-5 record and an 11-1 mark in SCIAC. He scored at least one goal in every game and had at least one assist in all but two. His season included both an eight-goal gave (vs. Concordia) and an eight-assist game (vs. La Verne), as well as a five-goal, five-assist game vs. McKendree, and a six-goal performance, including the game-winner with 1:00 left, in a 12-11 win over No. 13 UC Irvine.
Walker also had two fourth-quarter goals in that UC Irvine win to set up Kennedy's game-winner, part of a season in which he has ranked second on the team with 65 goals and 30 assists for 95 points heading into the postseason. His season has included six-goal games against nationally ranked UC Santa Barbara and SCIAC rival Redlands, as well as a five-goal game in a one-goal win over Harvard.
Weigle enters the postseason with 191 goals in his career, nine shy of joining the 200-goal club. He has had 38 this season, on his way to earning All-SCIAC first team distinction for the third time in his career. He had a season-high five goals in a win over Redlands, and added four-goal games against McKendree, La Verne and Caltech.
Taylor enters the SCIAC Tournament with 199 saves on the year, while recording a 19-5 individual record in the cage. He had a career-high 16 saves in a win at Chapman, and had nine games on the year with at least 10, including seven in SCIAC. He also had 10 saves in a one-goal win over Harvard, including a big one late to set up a buzzer-beating win.
