LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team competed in a 13-team field at the La Verne Winter Collegiate Invite this weekend, and recorded several high-ranking performances in the Saturday morning swim session.
Pierce McShane was third in a field of 29 swimmers in the 400 IM (second among DIII swimmers) with a time of 4:03.08, while
Kenny Eckel was seventh with a 4:06.85. Eckel was also 12th in the 100 breast (out of 47) in 57.38 and 14th in the 100 back in 52.67, with
Jack Beckman 13th in the 100 back (out of 54) in 52.61.
Jasper Shue was sixth in the 200 free (out of 55 swimmers) with a time of 1:41.41, placing third among DIII competitors, barely behind Massimo Reyna of UC Santa Cruz (1:41.27) and Nathan Xu of Pomona-Pitzer (1:41.32).
In the diving events, Beckett Haywood was fourth out of 14 divers in the three-meter with a 223.30.
Bennet Matazzoni was the top Stag in the one-meter with a 220.30, placing sixth out of 18 divers with Haywood right behind in seventh with a 2:14.85.
CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it competes in a two-day dual meet with Pomona-Pitzer on Dec. 5-6.
