LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
Lucas Lang (500 free) and
Kenny Eckel (200 IM) won individual titles, and the Stags 200 free relay team of
Jeremy Tan,
Sean Su,
Theo Johnson and
Dylan Krueger earned another first-place finish, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team opened up a 153-point lead over second-place Pomona-Pitzer (417-264) after the second of four days at the SCIAC Swim Championships, held at the East LA College Swim Stadium.
Lang, the defending national champion in the 1650, set a new personal-best time by winning the 500 in 4:25.13, knocking just over a half-second off his previous best set as a freshman in 2022. He won by almost seven seconds over Joe Dienstag of Pomona-Pitzer, with the Stags also having three other qualifiers for the finals, as
Ben Gallegos finished fourth in 4:35.69, Adam Vanluvanee came in fifth in 4:36.22, and
Cole Sumino finished eighth.
Kenny Eckel won the 200 IM in 1:49.14 to move into third place in CMS history, behind only
Frank Applebaum (the two-time national champion in the 200 fly) and Gary Simon (the two-time Division III National Swimmer of the Year). He was also joined on the podium by
Spencer Merodio, who came in third place at the meet and moved up from sixth into fourth in CMS history with a 1:50.34.
Lucas Williams also qualified for the finals and came in fourth in 1:51.87, as did
Dean Ko, who earned sixth in 1:52.70.Â
Krueger earned second place in the 50 free to take All-SCIAC honors, clocking a 20.38, moving him up one spot into fifth in CMS history.
Theo Johnson and Tan also reached the finals and came in seventh and eighth place.Â
The 200 free relay team capped off the race with a 1:20.90, to win by .3 over Pomona-Pitzer, as the Stags won their third relay in three tries over the last two days.Â
Day three will get underway tomorrow at 9 a.m. as the Stags will try to maintain their lead heading into Saturday's final day.Â
