Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team remained undefeated against Division III competition this season with 7-0 victories over both Wisconsin-Whitewater and Whittier on Friday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
With the wins, CMS moves to 18-2 on the season, including 18-0 since falling twice to Division II teams (Point Loma, Concordia) by 4-3 scores on opening day. The Stags are 15-0 against Division III teams on the year, and now 1-0 in the SCIAC after opening up with a Whittier win.
CMS won two of the three doubles courts against Wisconsin-Whitewater, with
Brandon Vu and
Caleb Settles winning 6-2 at No. 2, and
Warren Pham and
Matthew Robinson clinching the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Robinson earned a quick 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to put CMS ahead 2-0, and
Advik Mareedu moved to 25-0 in singles this season with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1. Settles provided the clinch with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Josh Kim extended the CMS lead to 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4, and
Tarm Rojanasoonthon earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4. Pham was pushed to a third set at No. 2, but finished off the shutout with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-3 win at No. 2.
The Stags also earned a dominant win over Whittier, with
Morgan Schilling and
Rohan Yarlagadda starting the match off with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Mareedu and Kim earned a 6-1 win at No. 1, and Rojanasoonthon and
Anirudh Reddy prevailed 6-4 at No. 2.
Rojanasoonthon played at No. 1 singles against the Poets and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win, and Reddy followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 for a 3-0 lead. Aniridh Gupta provided the clinch with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2, and Vu quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Yarlagadda puleld out a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3, and Schilling finished the sweep with a three-set win at No. 4, taking it 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.
CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it has another SCIAC home match against Caltech at 3 p.m.
