CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team will send eight student-athletes to the NCAA Division III Championships to compete in six different events after the NCAA announced its selections on Friday evening.
Colin Scanlon is seeded third in the 400-meter hurdles with a program-record time of 51.63, and he will also anchor a 4x400 relay team with
Aiden Owens,
Max Even, and
Jaden Rattay, which is seeded fifth, and ranks No. 2 in CMS history with a time of 3:09.77.
Kaden Cassidy will be seeded fifth in the hammer throw after breaking a CMS record at the Franson Last Chance Meet wih a throw of 205 feet, two inches. He and
George Kruger both earned their way into the throws at Last Chance meets, with Kruger punching his ticket just two days ago with a throw of 209'2" at the Redlands Final Qualifier, which places him second in CMS history.
One of the CMS-record holders in the 4x400 relay is
Ellis DelVecchio, who was part of the 4x400 team that finished as the national runner-up two years ago. This year, DelVecchio will try to make the All-America podium as an individual, after earning a 1:50.47 at the Franson Last Chance meet, which seeds him ninth.
Pierce Clark, who qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the winter and earned second-team All-America honors, will also compete in the 800 meters for the Stags after earning the 21st spot out of 22 qualifiers with a 1:50.47.
The NCAA Division III Championships will be held from May 22-24 in Geneva, Ohio. Thursday, May 22 will feature Kruger in the javelin, as well as prelims in the track events, with the finals (and Cassidy's hammer throw) taking place on Saturday, May 24.
