CLAREMONT, Calif. - Eight members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team earned All-Academic Athlete distinction from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced this week.
The eight Stags honored included three seniors,
Agustin Gomez de la Vega,
Colin Scanlon and
Leo Sundstrom, sophomores
Kaden Cassidy and
George Kruger, and first-years
Pierce Clark,
Aiden Owens and
Jaden Rattay.
In order to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete distinction, student-athletes must meet the minimum grade point average requirement and must either compete in the NCAA Championships, or rank in the top 50 in an event as an individual or in the top 35 on a relay.
In addition to the eight individual winners, the Stags also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team distinction, for carrying an overall team grade point average of 3.559.
CMS won the SCIAC Men's Track and Field Championship this season, its fifth in a row (the first in 2019, and then four straight from 2022-25 after a two-year break for the pandemic). Scanlon and Cassidy went on to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in the 400 hurdles and hammer throw, respectively, while Owens (4x400 relay), Rattay (4x400 relay) and Kruger (javelin) earned second-team All-America honors.
