CLAREMONT, Calif. - Six members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team earned All-Academic Athlete distinction from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced this week.
The six Athenas honored included three senior
Antonia Hekster, junior
Madeline Seifert, sophomores
Josephine Jett and
Revere Schmidt, and first-years
Olivia Backholm and
Sophia Laudi.
In order to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete distinction, student-athletes must meet the minimum grade point average requirement and must either compete in the NCAA Championships, or rank in the top 50 in an event as an individual or in the top 35 on a relay.
In addition to the six individual winners, the Athenas also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team distinction, for carrying an overall team grade point average of 3.606.
CMS won the SCIAC Women's Track and Field Championship this season, its eighth in the last nine seasons. Jett went on to earn first-team All-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles, while Laudi also qualified for nationals in the javelin.
