CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Pierce McShane won the 200 fly, the 200 back and the 200 IM to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team to a dominant win over Occidental in its first action of the new calendar year.
Beckett Heywood (one-meter, three-meter dive),
Jayden Kadiman (50 free, 100 fly), and
William Jones (1000 free, 500 free) won multiple events for the Stags as well, who came in first place in 14 of the 16 events.
CMS opened the meet with a win of .64 seconds in the 200 medley relay, as
Jack Beckman,
Evan Deedy,
Jasper Shue and
Sean Su finished in 1:36.03. Jones started off the individual competition with a 9:42.39 to win the 1000 free, with
Cole Sumino coming in second and
Charlie Hill third.
Beckman earned a 53.46 in the 100 back to take first place, before McShane earned the first of his three wins in the 200 fly in 1:55.56, followed by
Tyler Headley. Kadiman took first by almost a full second in the 50 free, clocking a 21.35, with Occidental's Cabot Teskey the runner-up in 22.25.
Su led a 1-2-3 Stag finish in the 100 free in 46.21, with Beckman coming in second and
Adam Lee third. McShane won by almost 10 seconds in the 200 back in 1:56.62, with
Micah Borg second, and
Clarence Cheam earned a first-place finish in the 200 breast in 2:14.34, with
Henry Lyons second.
Jones took an eight-second win in the 500 free in 4:43.69 for his second win of the meet, and Kadiman added his second victory of the day in the 100 fly in 50.90, followed by Headley and Shue. McShane's 1:57.02 in the 200 IM capped off the individual races, with Su and Lee coming in second and third.
Shue, Kadiman, Beckman and Jones won the 400 free relay over Occidental by almost five seconds to conclude the swimming portion of the meet. Heywood earned a convincing win in the one-meter dive by over 48 points (479.70 to 431.30), and then edged
Bennet Matazzoni in the one-meter 272.10 to 262.70, with
Zach Meisel coming in third.
CMS will be back in action next Saturday when it travels to La Verne for a double dual with Cal Lutheran.
