Sophia Laudi Earns SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week After Breaking Own CMS Record

Sophia Laudi set a new CMS record with a javelin throw of 138'8"
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophia Laudi of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team earned the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, Feb. 22, the conference office announced today.

Laudi broke her own CMS record in the javelin throw in her first competition of the 2026 outdoor season, reaching 138'8" (42.28 meters) to pass her previous best mark of 135'5" set last year by just over three feet. She ended up in first place among collegiate competitors at the Pomona-Pitzer Salo & Crenna T&F Invite, by a margin of almost 17 feet.

Laudi, who won the SCIAC javelin title and qualified for the NCAA Championships last year, joins Madeline Seifert as winners of the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week honor so far this season, after Siefert took it following a pole vault victory at the OIDFE Challenge Meet two weeks ago.

CMS will next be in action when it hosts the Rossi Relays on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
