Stags Basketball Places Four on All-SCIAC Teams

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Cahal Connolly and Will Householter of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned first-team All-SCIAC honors, while Reid Jones and Joey Kennedy captured spots on the second team in a vote of the conference's coaches, the SCIAC office announced today.

Connolly stepped into the starting line-up on a full-time basis for his senior season, and produced 13.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest, while shooting just over 60 percent from the floor (60.2). His efforts included a career-high 27 points in a key win over Occidental and 20 points to help the Stags complete a season sweep of Pomona-Pitzer. In conference games, his numbers improved to 14.2 points on 63.6 percent shooting from the floor.

Householter led CMS in scoring this season at 19.2 points per game, including 20.3 in SCIAC contests. After a slow start on the season-opening trip to Oregon (six points vs. Pacific, seven points vs. George Fox), he has scored in double figures in every game, including 32 against Chapman on Jan. 10, and 25 in the rematch with Chapman at home, as well as 27 in a recent win over Whittier.

Jones finished the regular season averaging 15.2 points per game, as well as tallying a CMS-record 93 steals on the defensive end, tallying SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors three times. Three times he had points-steals double-doubles in the non-conference schedule, including 18 points and 13 steals against Puget Sound, which was only four steals shy of the NCAA Division III record.

Kennedy averaged 11.3 points and 7.9 rebounds during the regular season, while also tallying 94 assists in his role as a passing forward. He had 23 points against Puget Sound, 22 against La Verne, and 21 points and 15 rebounds against Redlands. He also had nine-assist games against Whittier and Caltech, and five blocks in a win over Vassar.

CMS finished the regular season with a 22-3 record, including a program-record 16-0 start, and will be the No. 2 seed in the SCIAC Tournament, opening with a home semifinal game on Friday night against Chapman.
