Max Pemberton of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team earned the SCIAC Hitter of the Week Award for games through Sunday, March 22, the conference office announced today.
Pemberton hit 9-for-17 with nine RBI to help CMS to a 3-1 week. His week began with a 3-for-3 performance in a win over Crown in the finale of the Tucson Invitational, and it ended with a pair of hits in the ninth inning to help CMS win the rubber game against Redlands.
With the score tied 12-12 in the top of the ninth, Pemberton led off with a solo homer for the eventual game-winning RBI. After the Stags batted around, he tacked on an RBI double to cap a seven-run rally in a 19-12 win. In the first game of the series, he also hit a big three-run homer to put CMS ahead 9-4, after the Bulldogs had closed to within 5-4 with a grand slam.
It marks the second week in a row that Pemberton has won the SCIAC Hitter of the Week Award, after also winning it following the first four games of the Tucson Invitational. He is hitting 18-for-31 in the last eight games, withe four homers and 18 RBI.
CMS will be back in action when it plays a three-game series with La Verne this weekend, including a single game at La Verne on Friday and a doubleheader at Whittier on Saturday.
