CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Sibi Raja of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for matches through Sunday, March 8, the SCIAC office announced today.
Raja earned the clinching win at No. 3 singles as CMS defeated Biola 4-3 in a battle of unbeaten teams (both came in at 9-0 on the year, with Biola ranked No. 22 in Division II). Raja went to tiebreakers in both sets, and with the match tied 3-3 and a chance to clinch, he won the second-set tiebreaker 7-0. He then added a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against Westmont.
Raja becomes the fourth different Stag to win the award already this year, as CMS has started out 11-0 and moved into the No. 1 spot in the national rankings.
Warren Pham earned the honor last week after a 4-0 day in wins over UC Santa Cruz and Ventura College,
Henry Wilson picked it up after going 3-0 in singles to help CMS to the ITA Indoor Championship, and
Advik Mareedu won it after CMS got off to a 4-0 start on opening weekend.
CMS will be back in action on Friday when it takes on Bowdoin at 10 a.m. and Haverford at 4 p.m.
