Athenas Lacrosse Earns NCAA Bid, Opens Saturday against Whitman at Pomona-Pitzer

The CMS women's lacrosse team reacts to its NCAA selection
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will open up on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Whitman at Pomona-Pitzer.

The winner of the opening round game will face Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the second round. The winner of that contest will move on to the NCAA Regionals on May 16-17.

CMS enters the NCAA Tournament with a 12-5 record, with all three losses coming to nationally ranked team, including three to Pomona-Pitzer. The other two came to Amherst and the University of Chicago, which both host opening rounds as well.

The Athenas will be making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2022, when it opened with a win over George Fox, before falling to Pomona-Pitzer in the second round. This year's bid marks the first NCAA appearance for everyone on the current roster, which has just missed the cutoff for an at-large selection in each of the last three years.

The NCAA Regionals on May 16-17 will feature the winner of the Pomona-Pitzer pod, as well as sites hosted by Wesleyan (Conn.), Trinity (Conn.) and Chicago.
