LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team opened the 2024 season with a 163-99 defeat to Division I UC San Diego on Saturday.
In the first individual race of the day,
Lucas Lang swam a 9:46.90 in the 1000 yard freestyle to finish third, his first race since winning the Division III national title in the 1650 a year ago. Lang added a second-place finish in the 500 free in 4:43.43 later in the meet.
Kenny Eckel had a solid effort in his first swim, finishing second in the 100 breast with a 57.57, and later added another second-place in the 100 free in 47.79, before coming in third in the 200 IM.
Dean Ko and
Michael Ferraioli also finished second - in a tie - as they both swam a 1:56.19 in the 200-yard butterfly.
Ko (second) and
Sean Su (third) were in the top three in the 200 back in 1:56.66 and 1:59.01, respectively. Su also earned a third-place finish in the 200 free in 1:42.69 in the first race of his career.
Lucas Williams (second) and
Spencer Merodio (third) did similarly in the 200 breast in 2:09.98 and 2:11.29, respectively.
Dylan Krueger earned third place in the 50 free in 21.40, while
Tyler Headley was third in the 100 fly in 51.98
CMS will be back in action on November 2, when it travels to Whittier for a double dual meet with Chapman, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
