WHITTIER, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team opened SCIAC competition with a pair of wins at Whittier, defeating the host Poets 233-48 and adding a 213.5 to 84.5 win over Chapman on Saturday at the Slade Aquatic Center.
The Stags took their first individual win in the meet in the 100 back, going 1-2-3 with
Jeremy Tan,
Dylan Krueger, and
Sean Su earning the top three spots. CMS also went 1-2-3 in the 200 fly, with
Michael Ferraioli winning in 1:54.89, and
Dean Ko and
Tyler Headley coming in second and third.
The Stags dominated the 100 free with the top six finishers, as Merodio earned the top spot with a 47.60, a win of just .06 over Su and by .31 over
Alex Davies in second and third.
Ko earned a win in the 200 back in 1:56.38 and added a second win in the 400 IM in 4:06.46, followed by
Lucas Williams and
Sean Su. Ken Eckel picked up a victory in the 200 breast in 2:07.38.
Lucas Lang earned a win in the 500 free in 4:43.14.
CMS opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with Eckel, Williams,
Weston Crewe and Davies taking first in 1:36.61, winning by just .09 over Chapman. The Stags added a win the 200 yard freestyle relay to conclude the meet, with
Dylan Krueger,
Jeremy Tan,
Collin Fitzpatrick and
Spencer Merodio earning a 1:24.38.
In the diving events,
Cyrus Gaylord and
Jack Griffith went 1-2 in the three-meter, while Griffith was second and Gaylord third in the one-meter.
CMS will be back in action next week when it travels to Caltech for a dual meet, trying to move to 3-0 in SCIAC.
