PASADENA, Calif. - Five Stags won two individual events on the day (
Jack Griffith,
Sean Su,
Lucas Lang,
Kenny Eckel and
Jeremy Tan) as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team took a 209-90 win over Caltech on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, CMS moves to 3-0 in SCIAC duals this year and 3-1 overall.
Griffith swept both diving boards, with a 299.05 in the one meter, to win by 18 points and a 270.75 in the three-meter, a margin of 38 points.
Su led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:44.06, with
Alex Davies second and
Lucas Williams third, and then won the 100 free in 47.17.
Lang won the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:43.10 and then led a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 500 with a 4:44.07, followed by
Adam VanLuvanee,
Cole Sumino and
Spencer Merodio.
Eckel won the 100 breast in 57.01, just under two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, and then won a close battle in the 200 breast in 2:08.06, winning by .39 over Thomas Fenton of Caltech.
Tan earned the 50 free in 21.55, by just .02 over teammate
Dylan Krueger, and led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 back in 1:55.94, with
Dean Ko second and
Grant Stucky third.
Ko won the 200 IM in 1:56.72, by just .18 over Su, with Stucky coming in third. Krueger took first in the 100 back in 51.52, a comfortable margin of 2.5 seconds. CMS opened with a 1:33.48 in the 200-yard medley relay to win by .65, as Tan, Merodio, Krueger and
Theo Johnson earned the win in the day's first event.
CMS will next be in action for the ELAC Invitational Nov. 22-24, before returning to SCIAC competition for its two-day dual with Pomona-Pitzer after Thanksgiving.
