Stags Track and Field Competes at Whitworth Invitational, Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers

Leo Sundstrom moved into the top 25 in DIII indoor season
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team was in action at both the Whitworth Indoor Invitational and the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet this weekend, with Ellis DelVecchio, Kaden Cassidy and George Kruger winning events at Pomona-Pitzer and Leo Sundstrom moving into the top 25 in the nation (indoors) in the pole vault. 

At Whitworth, Sundstrom cleared 4.75 meters in the pole vault (15'7"), which places him 25th in NCAA Division III during Indoor Track and Field season. In addition, Colin Scanlon earned the No. 31 time in Division III this year in the 400 meters, clocking a 48.66, coming in eighth out of 27 competitors.

Scanlon was also part of a 4x400 relay with Max Even, Jaden Rattay and Aiden Owens that finished with the No. 35 time in Division III with a 3:20.52. Even, Rattay, Owens and Evan Seigel competed in the 4x200 and clocked a 1:29.84. 

Joshua Martinez qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fifth with a time of 8.40, and added a seventh-place finish in the long jump (out of 29) at 6.61 meters (21'8.25"). Owens qualified for the semifinals in the 60 meters with a 7.10, while Even earned a top-10 finish (10th) in the 200 with a 22.18, out of 52 runners. Jason Bowman was 13th in the shot put (out of 33) with a throw of 45'9", and also was was 12th in the weight throw.  

At Pomona-Pitzer, DelVecchio was the winner of the 800 meters in 1:52.86, winning by .2 over Angel Cordero, who was running unattached, while Louis DeLano came in fourth (out of 22) in 1:56.44. Cassidy took first in the hammer with a throw of 167'10", a winning margin of 12 feet, while Kavin Prasanna was fifth, while  Kruger (186'4") and Cian Bryant (171'4") were the top two finishers in the javelin, as Kruger just missed his PR of 187'10", which ranks No. 8 in CMS history. 

Emmett Stralka was sixth in the 100 meters in 11.33 seconds and the 200 meters in 22.54 seconds. Matthew Jabro was 11th out of 62 in the mile in 4:26.64, while Daniel Voyles (17th) and Jerry Xu (18th) were in the top 20. Oliver Pick (fifth), Jonas Rickert (seventh), Arnav Shetty (eighth) and Agustin Gomez De la Vega (10th) were in the top 10 of the 3000 meters (out of 70). 

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it hosts the Rossi Relays.
