Lyla Johnson Takes SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors for CMS Lacrosse

Lyla Johnston had 26 saves in two CMS wins
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior goalie Lyla Johnston of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Feb. 22, the conference office announced today.

Johnston had a solid week in net to help CMS to a pair of close wins. She finished with 14 saves in a 19-15 win over Bates and 12 saves in a 17-13 win over Chapman as CMS stayed undefeated on the year at 3-0. She had eight saves in the first half against Chapman to help CMS maintain an 8-6 lead at the break. In the Bates win, her seven second half saves helped CMS take control after it led by two at halftime.

She becomes the second award winner for the Athenas in as many weeks, after Julia Ryan took Offensive Player of the Week accolades after a season-opening win over Cal Lutheran last week.

CMS will be back in action for a key non-league matchup against Chicago on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Zinda Field.
