SANTA ANITA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team shot -2 as a team in the second round of the SCIAC Championships on Friday at the Santa Anita Golf Course, and heads into tomorrow's final round tied for first at -7.
Pomona-Pitzer was able to pull into a tie for first by shooting -11 as a team on Friday, and the two Sixth Street rivals stands nine shots ahead of third-place Occidental with 18 holes to go.
Samson Li shot -2 for the second day in a row to stand at -4 for the tournament, alone in third place, behind co-leaders Ken Cremers of Pomona-Pitzer and Jay Alvarado Wing at -7.
Sebi Aliaga was also in the red on Friday at -1, and is now in fourth place at -3.
Arnold He shot -1 on Friday to move up to even par for the tournament, in a tie for 10th, along with
Jamison Tan, as the Stags have four in the top 10 heading into the final round.
Li had a big finish to help CMS stay in a tie for first, getting birdies on No. 16 and No. 18. He also had a late birdie on No. 17. Aliaga had birdies on No. 10, No. 12 and No. 13, before closing out with five straight pars.
The final round will get underway at 10 a.m. tomorrow, with the Stags teeing off in the later groups, beginning at 10:45 p.m.
