CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team will host Pomona-Pitzer in a Sixth Street Rivalry game on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., which will also serve as the official dedication day for the brand-new Nakasone Field. 

Bob Nakasone (CMC '69) and his son Bobby will serve as the honorary captains for the contest. At halftime, there will be an official ribbon-cutting ceremony where the Nakasone Family will be joined by the CMS women's soccer program, which plays earlier at Pomona-Pitzer at 4 p.m.

The Stags are off to a 4-2-1 start in the early going, which includes a 1-0 win over No. 2 Trinity in their first-ever game played at Nakasone Field. CMS has come back three times in the second half with multiple goals on the road, taking a 3-2 win at UC Santa Cruz on Sept. 1, a 2-1 win at Cal Lutheran on Saturday, and rallying for a 2-2 tie at Wheaton. 

With the opening of the Sports Bowl at the Roberts Campus, which is the new home for football, lacrosse, track and field, baseball and softball, the men's and women's soccer programs relocated to the former football stadium. The track was removed and the facility was converted into a soccer field 120 yards long and 80 yards wide, the maximum allowable by the NCAA. With these field dimensions, CMS is now eligible to host NCAA tournaments.

Nakasone Field is covered with Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass. Tahoma 31 has achieved mass adoption for competitive soccer due to its high density, rapid healing from cleat damage, and tight footing. It also uses 20-60 percent less water than traditional grasses.

CMS will have another big home game at Nakasone Field again later this week, when it hosts Redlands at 7 p.m.
